LEWIS & CLark COLLEGE

In December 2008 Lewis & Clark College in partnership with Advanced Energy Systems activated a 105.3 KW Solar Electric System. The system utilizes (490) high efficiency SunPower PowerGuard 215 watt modules. The PowerGuard modules are mounted flush on the roof as tiles. The power from the modules is routed through (1) Solectria 95 KW inverter before connecting to the grid. This is the first non-penetrating, ballasted system to be approved by the City of Portland's permit department. The tiles also ad additional R-10 insulation to the roof which reduces heating and cooling costs in the Pamplin Gymnasium.

The PV System has substantial environmental impacts. Over its lifetime the system will save/offset an equivalent amount of energy as 2,600 tons of CO2, 271,200 gallons of gasoline, or 7,800 trees.
