Advanced Energy Systems is the culmination of 25 years of hands on involvement in the renewable energy industry and the leading commercial solar integrator in Oregon. As of 2007 we installed the majority of all the commercial solar energy systems in the state, including systems for Kettle Foods, Market Of Choice, Industrial Finishes, Pepsi-Cola, Guaranty RV, and many other Oregon business leaders. David Parker
President

David Parker is the owner of Advanced Energy Systems. Advanced Energy Systems has designed the 2 largest PV systems in Oregon (450 KW with Industrial Finishes and 252 KW with Pepsi Cola). David has a Masters Degree in Environmental Studies with an emphasis in renewable energy technologies, over twenty years experience in the design and installation of solar energy products and is an expert on the tax benefits and utility incentives available today. He is knowledgeable in all the low and zero interest finance programs applicable to renewable energy systems.

David is a licensed Oregon general contractor and an approved solar contractor with the Oregon Department of Energy (ODOE) and the Energy Trust of Oregon (ETO). He also a licensed renewable energy technician (LRT #008), a licensed solar plumber (SOL#13) and a renewable energy contractor (CLRE #20-512).

He is the past President of the Oregon Solar Industries Association (OSEIA), currently serves on the Board and as Vice-President (Willamette Valley). David has been a major participant in the development of solar licensing and net metering legislation in Oregon. Working with utilities, he has helped develop and implement solar and energy conservation programs for their customers.

David has extensive experience with solar water heating systems for residential and commercial users, residential and commercial solar pool heating systems, geothermal heat pumps, grid-tied photovoltaic systems for homes and businesses, solar for public schools, and has developed solar curriculums for college level courses.

Since 1980, he has been responsible for the installation of more than 2000 solar water heating systems, generating over 4 megawatts, and 100+ solar electric systems, generating over 2 megawatts. The combined energy savings to date of these systems is calculated to be over 200 gigawatt hours of electricity.

Kathryne Parker

Kathryne Corbin Parker was born in New York, and raised in California. Kathryne has been a licensed Real Estate Broker for 20 years specializing in land development, project management, and commercial real estate. Kathryne has dual responsibilities as Vice President and Human Resources Director.

KEN DENOUDEN
SUPERVISING ELECTRICIAN

Ken DenOuden

Ken is a native Oregonian born and raised in the Eugene area.  He attended local public schools graduating from Thurston High School.  Following high school, Ken attended the University of Oregon and received a bachelor of science in Economics and business administration.  He has a background in electrical construction, estimating and project management working for major electrical contractors in the Oregon region.  Prior to his work in the electrical field, Ken worked in the wine and microbrew distribution field throughout Western Oregon.  Ken has an Oregon Journeyman Electrical License, an Oregon Supervising Electrical License, and an Idaho Master Electrical License.  With an interest in solar and renewable energy since childhood, Ken is dedicated to expanding the utilization of renewable energy in the marketplace.  His interests and hobbies include backpacking, hiking, biking, camping, running, travel, and home landscaping.

DAN DETTMER

Dan Dettmer

Dan is experienced in electricity and natural gas transmission and in key customer account management/sales for large pipeline, marketing, and utility companies. He holds a B.S. degree in Accounting and a current CPA license. Raised in the Midwest, Dan moved to Houston, TX, to begin his career auditing energy projects, later transitioning to the natural gas business. Dan and his family moved to Portland, OR in 1997 where he began his career in the power business. He has a special interest in helping businesses save money and the environment through the use of renewable energy.

David MATTHEWS
COMMERCIAL SALES

David Matthews

David Matthews has over 40 years industry experience in engineering, manufacturing operations, marketing, strategic planning and international business development.  His responsibilities included executive management role as Vice President/General Manager for Japanese semi-conductor equipment manufacturer Tokyo Electron (TEL).  As VP/GM, David was responsible for the day-to-day oversight and strategic direction of a $120M division of TEL with annual sales of $6.8B. In addition to P&L responsibility, David served as a member of the board of directors and corporate representative to state and local government.

David attended Lancaster Institute of Technology in Coventry, England where he earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.S. in Engineering Management from Portland State University. The American Society for Quality has certified David Matthews as a Quality Manager and ISO 9000 Lead Auditor.

David Matthews teaches continuing education courses on Lean Manufacturing, TQM, project management, business planning and continuous improvement techniques. Consulting services include on-site training and implementation to assist companies in creating a Lean culture.

DON SPIEK

Don Spiek

Don has extensive experience with 25 years in the solar energy business. He had his own contracting business for 6 years in Eugene, Oregon and then worked for 17 years at the Eugene Water & Electric Board, the largest public utility in Oregon. Don was in the Energy Management Services department which developed and offered energy management programs, such as solar water heating and solar electric system incentive programs, to commercial and residential customers. Don helped develop and implement the solar programs for the utility.

Don is a Certified Energy Manager and has authored and presented technical papers for the American Solar Energy Association annual meetings. He is a Board member with OSEIA which he held for the last 5 years. Don has attended numerous Solar System Design and Safety trainings over the years. He is married, has three boys, enjoys all the outdoor activities in the area and currently lives in Eugene.

Nathan EDGECOMB

Nathan Edgecomb

Nathan Edgecomb is a Eugene native with a Political Science degree from the University of Oregon.   Before joining the AES team, Nathan worked as a Project Manager at a local winery to research and implement photovoltaics, energy conservation and a wetlands restoration.   He is a Captain in the Oregon National Guard and he spent seven months flying medical helicopters in Afghanistan.    In addition to flying, he enjoys sailing, rugby, tennis and golf.   Nathan looks forward to helping Oregon businesses with their solar power needs.

Eden Corbin

Eden Corbin has worked as a Design and Information specialist with Advanced Energy Systems since 2003. His background before solar includes working as a licensed real estate associate broker for 4 years, media design, and an undergraduate degree in Business/Finance. Eden’s responsibilities include system design, financial analysis, information systems, and media/website development. Eden is a fluent Spanish speaker and language enthusiast.

OFFICE MANAGER



I started working at Advanced Energy Systems began in October of 2006, my job is the accounting department and a variety of other administrative assignments. Contracts, billing, insurance and employee issues make up the core of my day. It is never a dull moment as we seek to blanket Oregon with warm, efficient solar modules!  In my spare time I like to play outside- bicycling, soccer and X-country skiing are my favorites. I came to Oregon in 1975 to study at OSU, explore the fine surroundings and raise 2 fantastic children. 

PAUL VERMILYEA
LEAD ELECTRICIAN

Paul Vermilyea earned an Associate’s Degree in Electronics Engineering from ITT in Portland. Paul worked as an electronics technician for 11 years, repairing circuit boards and communications systems for the Oregon State Lottery.  He entered the electrical field in 1997, and began working with David Parker on the installation of solar electric systems in 1998. He has extensive experience installing a wide variety of solar technologies, and managing large installation crews. Paul’s responsibilities include lead electrician and onsite project manager.

COSMOS CORBIN
DIRECTOR OF MARKETING

Cosmos Corbin graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Oregon in 2002. He worked for several years developing marketing / web / video and print materials for a diverse clientle, and eventually started his own successful publishing company which produced and distributed educational media products to an international audience. Cosmos Corbin is currently the director of marketing for Advanced Energy Systems. He co-ordinates and develops marketing strategy, branding, direct marketing campaigns, internet marketing and presence, print materials, support materials for sales agents, and onsite marketing materials.  He is also responsible for managing the solar system design process, which includes analyzing site specifics, CAD diagrams, and aerial photography and designing and solar energy systems for each unique site taking into consideration sun exposure, shading patterns, roof and building structure, system sizing, and current technological developments.
